Highlight of the Month November 2023

It was a big payday for Dennis Ashton at Nambucca Heads Island Golf Club, scoring $915 worth of club vouchers for his brilliant round in their Handiskins Club Championship for 2023. It was the fourth-highest amount any Handiskin Golfer has won over the last decade.

For all those who don't know about Nambucca Heads Island Golf Club - What a gem. Thank you to Geoff and his team for a great weekend, great golf course, great food and good people. This is a must visit club for all those who like to try new courses.

Handiskins Highlights from around the clubs in November 2023:

  • At Proserpine Golf Club it was a big day out for Scott Dwyer winning $415 of the $600 on offer.
  • At Stonecutters Ridge Golf Club only 3 shots separated all 4 finalists, but it was Peter Martin who pounced on the $480 jackpot hole which rocketed his total winnings up to $720 to get the biscuits. 
  • At Griffith Golf Club our four finalists played the game in great spirit and are a credit to the club. John Harrison was the highest money winner on the day taking home $350
  • What a great club final and atmosphere it was at the Young Golf Club final. There was some great golf culminating in Gavin Marshall being crowned winner with a total of $560.
  • Twin Creeks Golf & Country Club's $1,000 Handiskins Final  was taken out by Con Bonovas who was the highest money winner with $435.
  • What a big day out for Dennis Ashton who won all the Jackpot holes and finished with $915 at the inaugural Nambucca Heads Island Golf Club Handiskins Championship. It wasn't that the others played bad it was Dennis who took his opportunities at the right time.
  • Only 4 shots between our 4 finalists at Wodonga Golf Club which created a fantastic final. Paul Nicholas just finished on top winning $415.
  • The Links Lady Bay's big winner this year was David Galloway with $410.
  • Box Hill Golf Club had a good $320 Jackpot hole on the 18th Hole that was cooly taken by Chris Dyer, shooting him to victory with a winning total of $660.
  • A great finish to a big year at Glenelg Golf Club with Craig Bevan winning $500 in the C,ub's Wednesday Championships.
  • At Longyard Golf Club tThe $800 prize pool was fairly evenly spread over the four players but Jane Somsrisuk toweled up the boys winning 3 jackpot holes at vital stages of the match, resulting in $310 in winnings!
  • Commercial Club Albury Golf Resort low marker Michael Drysdale won a very tight competition bringing home $300.
  • The Ladies final at Headland Golf Club was played in beautiful sunshine and only 4 shots separated our 4 finalists. Monica Antony who jumped out of the blocks fast winning the first 7 holes but had to hold on in a tight finish to claim her $395 and the club title.
  • Norfolk Island Golf Club's final was a true 'battle of the sexes' with 2 ladies and 2 men contesting an epic Final. Low marker Julie Bell chalked one up for the ladies winning an impressive $600.

Well done everyone. We hope to see you at the Handiskins National Championship at Palm Meadows Golf Course in 2024 on the Gold Coast. 

All four finalists from each club received a Bridgestone Golf Cap and their winnings above in Club Vouchers. 

National Championships Qualifications 2024

All four finalists have now also qualified for the national championship and are extended an invitation to contest Australia's best Amateur golf championship at the 2024 Handiskins National Championship at Palm Meadows Golf Course next May. Given the great spirit shown in this months club finals, we are sure all four finalists would be in with a chance to claim the silverware and be crowned Handiskins National Champion. The 2024 event will be held from Wednesday 1st May to Sunday 5th May 2024.

Non-qualifiers can still join the fun of the National Championships 

For those  who weren't lucky enough to qualify for the National Championships but want to join these finalists and other club-mates on the Gold Coast each year, take a look at the amazing packages that we have available for the Peter Lehmann Wines Golf Challenge - A social Stableford championship for those wishing to join the fun of Handiskins National Championship Week. Win a Yamaha Golf Cart with HandiskinsDon't forget the Yamaha Chipping Competition!

Don't forget that three players from each participating club also have the chance to clean up at the Handiskins National Championships Week. After taking out the the nearest the pin challenge in the first, third and fifth rounds of qualifying, don't be surprised if you see these qualifiers spending an extended amount of time around the club chipping greens in the coming months. All three players who took out the nearest the pin have scored an invitation to contest the Yamaha Chipping competition at the 2024 Handiskins Championship Week. The winner will return to their club as the owner of a brand new Yamaha Golf Cart - just like our lucky 2023 winner Peter Kirwin from Cowra Golf Club (watch below).
