The ultimate game of skins for club golfers

Fenwicke too strong at Balgowlah

7 Jun 2020

Balgowlah Golf Club 2020 Handiskins Championship

Can you believe its now been 9 years that Balgowlah has been playing Handiskins. So it is no surprise that Tony Fenwick lined up for his second final in 2020. As it turns out, this experience shone through as Fenwicke held his nerve to pounce on the final two holes to clinch an absorbing final at Balgowlah today.

With the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions easing, Balgowlah were able to reschedule their final to today.  After completing the first 10 holes without a skin to his name, Fenwicke struck at the right time to take a solid $240 skin on the 17th and sealed the win on the 18th with his second of three skins for the day. The reality is that this comp could have been anyone's. with all players contesting strongly at every hole, and with the slightest bit of luck any of Fenwicke's fellow finalists could have taken the title.

Results from the day saw Tony Fenwicke pocket $440 of the $1,200 on offer. Darren Watson scored $400, Chris Falkland $240. Whilst Shane Gray was unlucky to not win a skin, its his work on the par three's that have really paid off. In the Club final Shane nabbed both of the Nearest-the-pin's for $120, as well as winning the chance earlier in the competition to contest the chipping comp at the National Championships for a Yamaha Golf Cart .

Time for Shane Gray to work on his short game?

After taking out the the nearest the pin challenge in the first round of qualifying (and both nearest the pin's in the club final), don't be surprised if you see Shane Gray spending more time around the Balgowlah Golf Club chipping greens in the coming months. Shane has the opportunity to contest the Yamaha Chipping competition at the 2021 Handiskins Championship Week. The winner will return to their club as the owner of a brand new Yamaha Golf Cart.
