In a display of remarkable precision under pressure, 77-year-old retired Army lieutenant colonel Robbie Moule from Maroochy River Golf Club has won the highly coveted Yamaha golf cart in the 2025 Handiskins National Championship Chipping Competition.

The atmosphere was electric at Palm Meadows Golf Course as 36 Handiskins National Championship participants lined up for their one shot at glory. The challenge: a 50-metre chip, with the closest to the pin driving away in a brand-new Yamaha golf cart.

One Shot, One Incredible Winner

As contestant after contestant took their turn, nerves were evident. Some chips flew wide, others fell short, and a few overshot the green entirely. Then, with military precision, Robbie Moule stepped up to his ball, 52° wedge in hand. He launched his shot high, judging the right-to-left breeze perfectly. Competitors and spectators watched intently as the ball landed softly on the green and nestled just 102cm from the cup – a truly superb effort!

The mark was set, and despite some valiant attempts from the remaining golfers, Robbie's shot remained unbeatable. The announcement by emcee Jimmy White was met with a huge round of applause, cementing Robbie's popular victory.

"I only came down here to win the golf cart, and I told my mates at Maroochy River I would... and I did!" a delighted Robbie exclaimed. "I have waited five years to get a cart spot in the shed, and now I have something to put in it." Interestingly, the 13-handicapper admitted that chipping from inside 50 metres was usually a "weakness" in his game, with his strength lying in his driving. On this day, however, his short game was pure gold!

The tension of the Handiskins Chipping Competition was real
